Job Purpose Statement: The position of the 7 - 12 Science teacher works under the general supervision of building administrators and performs a variety of tasks with major responsibility being the science instruction and supervision of students.
Instruction of students shall include skill development, the expansion of knowledge, and developing the ability to reason.
Responsibilities include supervision, guidance, discipline and safety of students.
The use of independent judgment and decision making is required in many matters not having established rules, regulations, policies or precedent.
Strict adherence to confidentiality and the rights of students and families is expected.
The nature of the work requires adherence to governmental statutes, policies, procedures and regulations.
Essential Job Functions:
The teacher performs a wide variety of instructional and supervision duties in support of all students.
This list is not exhaustive and other duties may be assigned.
Plans for instruction for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and providing documentation of teacher and student progress.
Establishes objectives for a unit of instruction, formulates daily lessons and evaluates student’s attainment of learning goals.
Designs instructional activities to achieve unit and lesson objectives.
Establishes a classroom climate conducive to learning by students for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
Communicates classroom rules, procedures and behavioral expectations based upon the level of development of students and laws governing student rights and responsibilities.
Implements plans for Instruction for the purpose of improving student success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through a defined course of study.
Provides instruction using a variety of instructional techniques to achieve planned objectives.
Evaluates student achievement for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents/guardians and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.
Grades and records the students progress, prepares anecdotal records, and reports achievement to students and parents.
Other Job Functions:
Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of supporting teacher’s expectations, developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals.
Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and Administrative Regulations.
Confer with colleagues, administrators, students and/or parents when necessary.
Participate in various meetings (e.
g.
parent conferences, in-service training, staff meetings, etc.
) for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information.
Accept and incorporate feedback and coaching from administrative staff.
Job Requirements – Qualifications:
A successful candidate holds the ability to obtain an appropriate Oregon teaching license, or charter school registry through TSPC.
Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
Skills in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum appropriate to the age level of the students in realizing success.
Effective communication skills with students, parents and other school personnel.
Knowledge of age appropriate teaching methods, state and district curriculum standards, credit and grading requirements (when applied), appropriate instructional subjects.
Abilities to stand and walk for prolonged periods, perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks, maintain records, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, other school personnel, meet schedules and deadlines.
Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying/reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity/depth perception and accommodation field of vision.
First Aid and CPR certification, or the ability to become certified is necessary.
Salary Range: $40,938 - $71,689 based on experience and education.
Alsea School District provides medical, dental, and vision insurance options, as well as monthly district contribution for insurance.
The district also pays the 6% employee contribution to PERS.
*The district is currently in negotiations with the Alsea Education Association for salary and benefits.

Licensed Contract is a 174 day contract.
