We are seeking an expert in the field of one of the following: fire science, car detailing/mechanics, small business operations or another vocation that is aligned to middle to high-wage earning potential for our students.
We provide multiple pathways to success by offering: standard and modified diplomas, GED, academic, social service, and connection to post-secondary options.
Students can access dual credit (on-campus agreements with multiple Colleges and Universities), Career and Technical Education (CTE) (6 approved programs of study including culinary, beats making and construction), and on-site job training through our student businesses.
We serve a diverse student population and seek candidates with experience working in diverse settings.
Department: Student Services Program: Youth Corrections Education Program (YCEP), Albany Oregon Reports to: Principal Classification: Licensed Represented Schedule: 228 days per year POSITION PURPOSE: Providing direct career and technical instruction to pupils.
NATURE & SCOPE: CTE (Career and Technical Education) teachers specialize in specific fields like construction, manufacturing or technology, preparing students for real-world careers.
They design hands-on curricula, teach practical skills aligned with industry standards, and assess student progress.
They also mentor students in career exploration and often forge partnerships with local industries for internships or practical experiences.
Continuous professional development keeps them updated with industry trends, ensuring they effectively guide students toward successful career paths.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Provide relevant, rigorous, technical skill standards-based content Align courses/content with post-secondary education partners Assess technical skills Establish/maintain a program of study Advisory Committee comprised of business, community and education partners Provide guidance support to assist students in progressing through a CTE program of study Provide student leadership organization opportunities for further growth and professional development Integrate work-readiness skills instruction Develop and maintain business partnerships Attend required state, regional and district workshops and conferences ESSENTIAL QUALITIES: Equity: Lead and support regional equity initiatives Vision: Lead with vision, follow-through and student focus.
Trust: Develop trust among coworkers and students through honesty and fairness.
Communication: Communicate in an inclusive, effective and collaborative manner.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES: Must have demonstrated experience in the program of study area Energetic, empathetic, and innovative Ability to be flexible and resourceful Desire to work with students from a variety of cultural backgrounds and learning abilities Ability to use technology as a tool in the classroom Demonstrated ability to work with a wide variety of high school students in a multicultural setting Possess the knowledge and skills to develop positive interpersonal relationships Good organization and management skills Ability to meet individual student needs in the development of department goals and restructuring of the curriculum Desire to collaborate with colleagues Desire to network with external colleagues to develop programs for students (speakers, job shadow, field trips, internships, etc.
) Must adhere to Career and Technical Education program standards set by the Oregon Department of Education and MESD.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES: Bilingual in Spanish and English EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in related field and valid Oregon CTE Teacher License or a minimum of 2,000 hours of relevant business and industry experience in your CTE field within the last five years.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in a youth correctional institution, subject to moderate/loud noise.
Students may have significant emotional, behavioral, and mental health struggles BENEFITS: District pays full medical, dental and vision premiums for eligible employees and dependents Two medical insurance plan options: Group Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) Opt-Out option MESD pays employee’s 6% Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) contribution Paid holidays, sick leave and personal time off Tuition Reimbursement and Professional Development opportunities This position is subject to board policies, administrative rules and procedures, department regulations and applicable state and federal statutes.
