We are currently seeking a Mineral Process Engineer.
This position is located in Albany, OR.
Job Summary The selected candidate will join our team on the National Energy Technology (NETL) Research Support Services (RSS) Contract.
This opportunity will allow side by side execution of research with world-class scientists and engineers using state of the art equipment to contribute to new areas of basic and applied research.
The successful candidate will participate in studies relating to research on the beneficiation of critical mineral ore bodies in conventional and unconventional resources (including magnetic, gravity, flotation separations), the design of extractive flowsheet processes (including hydrometallurgical and pyrometallurgical routes), and experimental geochemistry reactions of targeted ore bodies and gangue minerals.
The ideal candidate will have a background in mineral processing, metallurgical extractions, and process mineralogy.
The employee will also have demonstrated research experience and publication record, including technical reports or peer-reviewed manuscripts.
This is an on-site position, on-site every day.
Responsibilities Characterize target ore body and gangue minerals within specific and typified feedstocks.
Test and evaluate beneficiation techniques for target ore bodies, including, but not limited to, gravity, magnetic, heavy liquid, flotation separations.
Evaluate process mineralogy and geochemical datasets to design mineral processing flowsheets.
Assist in metallurgical extractions which could include hydrometallurgical, pyrometallurgical, electrochemical methods.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary group of science researchers to accomplish project tasks.
Create and deliver oral, poster presentations of results in meetings and at technical conferences/workshops.
Effectively document and communicate scientific results through peer-review journal manuscripts and technical reports.
Key Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Metallurgy, Mineral Processing, Materials Engineering, Geology or other related field with 2 years of experience or Master’s degree in related field.
Experience with gravity separation (Wilfley or other concentrating table, spiral concentrators), magnetic separation (wet high intensity).
Experience in working with hard-rock ore bodies.
Must be able to meet the requirements for gaining access to work on the NETL campus.
Must be a U.

Citizen.
Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Mining Engineering, Metallurgy, Mineral Processing, Materials Engineering, Geology or other related field.
Background in metallurgy and/or minerals processing.
Experience with minerals processing heavy equipment, including crushers, grinding rolls, ball/rod mills.
Familiarity with process mineralogy to inform flowsheet designs Familiarity with analytical techniques such as x-ray fluorescence, scanning electron microscopy energy dispersive spectroscopy Experience handling and processing large geochemical datasets.
