Yes Job Summary The College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences is seeking a Director of Communications and Marketing.
This is a full-time (1.
00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.
The Director of Communications and Marketing oversees communications and strategic marketing by the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences (CEOAS) at Oregon State University (OSU).
The position is responsible and accountable for communicating the value, societal relevance, and impact of CEOAS’s research, teaching, and outreach programs to diverse audiences, including but not limited to prospective students and sponsors, alumni, industry, and the general public.
As other responsibilities allow, the position is accessible and provides guidance to members of the CEOAS community in communicating their research and other activities within and beyond the university.
Additionally, the Director ensures consistency of messages and branding in CEOAS’s communications.
The Director manages assignments of work within the communications and strategic marketing team, schedules and budgets for projects and other activities, quality of deliverables, and evaluation of success.
The Director serves as a member of the CEOAS leadership team and collaborates regularly with OSU University Relations and Marketing, Newsroom, Foundation, Alumni Association, and Government Relations.

Key Responsibilities 30% – Strategic Planning and Leadership Plans and implements communications about and strategies for marketing of CEOAS activities that are consistent with the vision and priorities of CEOAS and OSU as detailed in strategic plans and other documents and initiatives.
Identifies opportunities to reach diverse audiences and determines most appropriate methods for doing so.
Identifies measures of success and collects data on those measures to assess efficacy.
Provides leadership and strategic direction and assigns responsibility for print and digital communications and marketing materials.
Coordinates communication across social media channels.
Works collaboratively with related programs and entities (e.
g.
, Oregon Sea Grant, Hatfield Marine Science Center, Marine Studies Initiative, University Relations and Marketing, Newsroom, Foundation, Alumni Association, Government Relations, Admissions) to communicate and promote CEOAS’s research, education, and outreach to a diverse audience across Oregon and the nation.
45% – Marketing & Communications Oversees production of major CEOAS publications.
Writes news summaries, feature stories, and other content for CEOAS’s print and digital outlets and proposals for extramural support of CEOAS.
Manages external queries about CEOAS news.
Designs, writes, and edits executive communications, and provides other forms of communications and marketing support, for fundraising, engagement, and recruitment as directed by the Dean of CEOAS.
20% – Supervision and Management Leads and supervises assigned staff.
Plans, assigns, and reviews work; assesses performance through written evaluations; and disciplines or recommends discipline up to and including dismissal.
Regularly reports to and communicates with CEOAS leadership to align communications and marketing with CEOAS and OSU goals.
5% – Professional Development and Other Duties as Assigned What You Will Need Bachelor’s degree.
Five years of professional experience in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field.
Demonstrated skill in written, visual, and oral communication with diverse audiences.
Experience in planning and implementation of communications or marketing strategies.
Experience in management of a portfolio of projects.
Experience in leading a team of professionals with different position types and career stages.
A demonstrable commitment to promoting and advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position.
Therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq.
Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
What We Would Like You to Have Bachelor’s or graduate degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field.
Professional experience in institutions of higher education.
Professional experience in communication of science and its societal relevance to general audiences.
Experience with publication design software.
Experience in graphic design, photography, or videography.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule Occasional travel to report on or facilitate communications and marketing at university and other events, and at field sites, is required.
Attendance at some events on evenings or weekend is required.
Hybrid on-campus and remote work locations will be considered provided such an arrangement does not compromise establishment and maintenance of strong working relationships with colleagues and the CEOAS community.
