The Assistant Director of Career Development within the Career Development Center (CDC) is an educator, counselor, strategist, relationship-builder, and communicator.
They are an advocate for students as they navigate their journey from college to career.
They teach, support, and equip faculty, advisors, and students with career-readiness skills, tools, and best practices.
The Assistant Director is a member of the CDC on the Career Education Team but is embedded within the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences (CEOAS).
The position is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating short- and long-range goals and objectives related to career development for that college and the Career Development Center.
They provide leadership and vision for programs designed to effectively deliver comprehensive career services for the students they support.

Key Responsibilities 25% Student Program Development and Implementation: The Assistant Director develops, coordinates, and facilitates career development opportunities and programs for on-campus and online students in CEOAS to empower them to reach their unique future goals.
This includes but is not limited to workshops, classroom presentations, faculty consultation for curricular integration of industry-desired career skills, panel discussions, club presentations, networking or informational events with employers and alumni, webinars, and one-on-one coaching.
Programming is offered in person and virtually.
The person in this position develops college-specific resources and event advertisements – including handouts, webpage resources, classroom assignments, newsletters, etc.
(in partnership with the college and the CDC marketing personnel).
They create programming and promotional messages that are sufficiently compelling and adapted to student needs to drive attendance in a noisy educational environment.
They actively reach out to new college partners to expand participation in career education across all areas of the academic experience (advising, teaching and research faculty, program directors, associate deans, etc.

Provides training and resources to faculty and advisors, including consultation and support for faculty who integrate career readiness into courses within the college.
They assess and evaluate strategy and outcomes on an ongoing basis in partnership with the CDC and the college leadership.
They complete reports and provide strategic planning processes to support programming.
25% Instruction The person in this position teaches undergraduate courses in career development relevant to the university’s Core Education and the CEOAS program’s experiential learning curricular requirements.
They develop course materials, contribute to curriculum design, hold regular office hours, and are accessible to assist students with career and related experiential learning coursework and answer questions.
20% CEOAS Experiential Learning Opportunities Coordination The person in this position engages with CEOAS faculty and other partners to identify, review, and promote student experiential learning opportunities, including for-credit internships and research.
Completes internship and research-related documents and processes, such as learning agreements, supervisor evaluations, and student reflections.
They communicate to CEOAS students the various jobs, internships, research, and funded undergraduate and graduate opportunities available.
They collaborate with CDC Employer Relations and external organizations to develop and implement strategies for increasing and improving internship opportunities for CEOAS students.
