Job Summary The Department of Chemistry is seeking a Lab Manager.
This is a full-time (1.
0 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.
This position was created to oversee the day-to-day operations of the inorganic/materials chemistry laboratory of principal investigator (PI) Dr.
May Nyman.
The mission of our laboratory is workforce training, discovery and implementation of atomic level approaches to solving environmental and energy challenges.
Laboratory activities include synthesis and characterization of inorganic materials and metal-oxo clusters for fundamental discovery and assessment of structure and chemical phenomena.
The operations include handling radioactive materials.
Major characterization equipment overseen and utilized by members of the lab include electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI MS), single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD), small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), thermogravimetry-mass spectrometry, vibrational spectroscopies, UV-vis spectroscopy.
This position will oversee equipment usage and upkeep, chemical and radioactive materials inventory, laboratory safety and housekeeping, and student training and research.
Depending on the incumbent’s skillsets, career goals and interests, the position will be expected, to some degree, to lead other activities including: 1) research 2) grant writing 3) manuscript writing and submission 4) classroom teaching.

EH&S, group website, Box folder, instrument and procedure SOPs) 20% Depending on time availability, job performance, and agreement with the PI; the position is also encouraged to engage in any the following activities: Independent research and publishing Grant writing (collaborative or independent) Formal teaching of up to one course per year, as needed What You Will Need PhD in chemistry or materials science At least 2 years post-PhD experience in laboratory research, preferably inorganic synthesis Expertise in X-ray techniques and instrumentation Proficiency in oral and written communication in English Demonstrated commitment to equitable and fair treatment of all co-workers, regardless of gender and gender identity, ability, race, religion, ethnic background, and age.
