The Oregon Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit (CRU) in the Department of Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Sciences at Oregon State University is seeking a seasonal field technician (Biological Sciences Research Technician 1) to assist with ecological research examining native and non-native fish abundance and distribution in the Goose Lake Basin, Oregon.
This is a full-time position with an anticipated four-month duration.
The position will involve frequent travel (~25%) from Corvallis to Lakeview, Oregon where the field crew will be living and working in remote conditions.
All travel expenses, including transportation, lodging, meals, and per-diem will be covered by the CRU.

Key Responsibilities (20%) Sample native and non-native fish throughout the Goose Lake Basin using electrofishing, seines, minnow traps, and other standard methods of capture.
(20%) Collect eDNA samples for the detection of native and non-native fish species.
(20%) Install continuous water logger devices in the field and download data using relevant software.
(20%) Collect biophysical data on stream habitat characteristics.
(20%) Enter ecological data in excel and follow quality assurance/quality control procedures.
What We Require Two years of college-level courses in (specific field of biological science); OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
What You Will Need Demonstrated experience assisting with field-based biological research Experience safely handling live fish and/or other aquatic species Working knowledge of excel and/or other data management software Attention to detail, especially with respect to data collection and entry Strong interpersonal skills CPR/basic first aid training by position start date.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule This position entails a mix of outdoor field work in a remote, high desert setting and indoor office work entering and processing ecological data.
The field crew will spend an extended period of time in the Goose Lake Basin during the summer months, and the field technician will be required to make frequent trips from Corvallis, OR to Lakeview, OR.
Conditions in the high desert environment often reach temperature extremes during the field season and work will be performed under strenuous conditions.
The technician must lift and carry equipment up to 40 lbs on uneven terrain.
