The Crisis Counselor position is a 12-month full-time position that reports to a member of the CAPS senior leadership team (which includes the Executive Director, Senior Director of Clinical Services, and Director of Training).
The primary purpose of this position is to be part of a new mental health care intake team, CAPS Access.
This team (crisis specialist and triage counselors) will be responsible for assessing all students who call or walk in seeking mental health care, becoming an integral part of helping the student quickly access professional help.
The team will speak with the student to determine their need(s) and then help the student get connected to a provider who can best meet their mental health concerns.
Knowing students may arrive in varying degrees of mental wellness, our CAPS Access team will be prepared to be the first point of contact for all students, from those with need for minimal mental health support through those having an acute mental health crisis.
This Crisis specialist will work collaboratively with our Triage Specialists and an interdisciplinary Treatment Team of therapists and support professionals to meet the diverse mental health needs of our global student community.
The Access team will provide culturally responsive mental health services.
Typical duties include: Providing clinical screening and crisis intervention services Establishing appropriate stabilization and care plan for each person seeking services Responding to student inquiries for mental health care at end of crisis contact Finding internal and external resources in support of resolving the crisis Ensuring appropriate information and referral for follow-up care CAPS is committed to providing a range of culturally responsive services to help students succeed.
These services are designed to help students understand themselves better, create and maintain satisfying relationships, improve their academic performance, foster resilience, and make healthy and satisfying career and life choices.
We do this by providing consultation, single session interventions, psychoeducation, web-based support, crisis support during business hours, group counseling, and brief individual and relationship counseling when indicated.
Additionally, if long-term care is needed, we will make referrals to health care providers in the community.

Key Responsibilities 70 % On Call Availability: On Call crisis support by conducting consultations within CAPS’ on-call clinic.
These consultations will involve risk assessment, safety planning, collaborative decision-making and connecting students to appropriate resources within OSU and CAPS, and referral to community resources if longer-term care is indicated.
Provide case management; provide triage consultations; assist with hospitalization.
Crisis stabilization and bridging clinical care to off campus counseling as needed.
30% Other Assigned Duties: Manage community resources; note-writing and management of e-mail and telephone correspondence; attend and participate in regular staff meetings, in-service training activities, and case conferences; serve on campus committees; maintain and promote the highest ethical and professional standards commensurate with training and licensure; pursue professional development in service of the responsibilities of the position and the profession.
What You Will Need Masters of Social Work, Masters of Counseling, Masters of Marriage and Family Therapy or Doctorate in Psychology from a counseling/clinical psychology accredited program.
Eligible for licensure as LPC, LCSW, LMFT, or Licensed Psychologist in the state of Oregon within 2 years of employment.
One year of culturally and trauma-informed clinical assessment, crisis intervention, case management, and mental health triage experience with high-risk adolescents and or adults.
Experience with and/or commitment to working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, in support of an inclusive and welcoming environment.
Strong organizational skills.
Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) with colleagues and clients.
