50 (Portland Metro) Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill multiple part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Career Assistant positions for the Career Development Center at Oregon State University (OSU).
NOTE – Employment Timeline: Upon employment, student employees will begin training in Spring 2024.
Student employees will work 2 to 3 hours per week, starting in Week 1 of the spring term, in paid training in which they will learn how to facilitate career advising appointments, understand the operational duties of the position, and gain an overall understanding of the position.
During the summer break (July 2024 – September 2024), employees will participate in 2 to 3 team-building online calls to keep up to date with the position and prepare for the start of the fall term.
Finally, employees will begin full employment duties in Week 1 of the fall term, when they will be expected to work 10 to 20 hours per week.
The full-time employment will continue through the winter and spring terms of the 2024-25 academic year.
Continued employment will be contingent upon employees maintaining satisfactory job performance as evaluated by the supervisor.

This is accomplished by providing high-quality career advising and career education to peers; assisting in the coordination of campus programs and events; managing online platforms; strengthening external partnerships with faculty, alumni, employers, parents and the surrounding community via written and verbal communication; and providing excellent customer service to thousands of stakeholders.
These activities will take place in an in-person/virtual hybrid format, according to the needs of the OSU community.
Through this position, students will develop core competencies that will better prepare them for careers after graduation.
These skills include, but are not limited to: communication, critical thinking, teamwork/collaboration, leadership, professionalism, intercultural fluency, & digital technology.
Students will also develop expertise in topics directly related to career development, including resume and CV writing, interviewing etiquette, salary negotiation, and more.
Position Duties Provide daily advising to peers on a variety of career development topics Support planning and implementation of Career Development Center events including career fairs, networking events, employer information sessions and classes Manage Handshake activity, including approval of employer and job requests, appointment scheduling, and event pages Be first point of contact for all visitors to the Career Development Center and uphold high standards of customer service at all times Facilitate and lead professional development presentations on behalf of the Career Development Center, including internal training presentations for the Career Assistants team.
Perform all main reception operations including answering phones, email, and handling customer queries and questions Help to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all visitors to the Career Development Center, both virtually and in person Support Career Development Center staff in completing administrative tasks that support the mission of the Center Assist in hiring and training of new student employees Attend and participate in regular staff trainings, including paid training in Spring 2024 and team building activities online in Summer 2024.
