50 (Portland Metro) Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill two (2) Undergraduate Research Intern positions with the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences (CEOAS) at Oregon State University (OSU).
Position (1): Python software optimization intern Position (2): Climate science research intern The student worker will work on a project related to the assessment of weather forecasts for a special type of weather forecast made for “sub-seasonal” time scales (about 1-4 weeks in advance).
Student will informally join the CEOAS Research Experience for Undergraduate (REU) cohort, which includes orientation, weekly seminars, and group field trips.
Workstations and a desk on-campus for work use will be provided.
Position Duties Position (1): Python software optimization intern Optimize the performance of a Python software package currently under development, aimed at reducing the computational time and resource usage, and increasing portability Create clear and concise documentation detailing the optimization process, changes made to the codebase, and instructions for future maintenance and development Participate in regular meetings, provide regular progress updates, and collaborate with mentor to achieve project objectives Position (2): Climate science research intern Perform data analysis on large datasets using Python to analyze changes in simulated forecasts across different versions of UFS Collaborate with mentor to interpret findings and validate results Participate in regular meetings and provide regular progress updates Minimum Qualifications Full Employment Eligibility Requirements can be found here: https://fa.

edu/stu-manual/500-employment-eligibility-requirements Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term* Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term* *International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
