Key Responsibilities 35% Maintains UHDS steam distribution systems, steam operated HVAC systems, commercial kitchen equipment, plumbing systems & equipment.
Installation, repair & maintenance of steam supply & condensate distribution lines, fittings, steam traps, various sized valves, condensate pumps, heat exchangers, chillers & A/C absorption units.
Installation & repair of pneumatic HVAC controls, steam heating & hot water supply valves, pneumatic safety temperature & pressure control devices.
Repairs, calibrates & tests aqua-stats, thermostats, air handler, air compressor & low-voltage controls.
Installs & repairs plumbing & gas systems, sometimes in restricted residential facilities.
35% Troubleshoots steam, water, or air leaks; spot welds leaks; chooses proper replacement pipe or fitting; modifies pipes & fittings to specifications; installs new pipe or fitting by means of threaded, brazed, or welded joints; tests pipes, valves & pumps ; makes minor repairs or purchases new valves & pumps if appropriate; calibrates all environmental temperature, pressure, & humidity controls; diagnoses & introduces custom control actions through application software; as part of the preventive maintenance program checks, adjusts, & recalibrate environmental controls.
Inspects work site to determine presence of obstructions & ascertain if alteration will cause excessive structure weakness; lays out sequence of work; fabricates pipes & fittings with use of pipe cutters, hacksaws, hammers & chisels, cutting torch, threading machine, & pipe bending machine; joins piping by means of threaded, brazed, soldered or welded joints; secures pipes to structure; inspects & tests completed system.
10% Performs preventative maintenance by checking, inspecting, & servicing all steam operated equipment/appliances & distribution lines; reads & interprets blueprints & written instructions.
Performs emergency repairs on steam & plumbing systems.
Ensures all work conforms to all applicable codes (Federal, State, County, & City) & University design criteria.
10% Coordinates with work coordination, participates in scheduling, estimating, & work review.
Assists with preparation of Preventive Maintenance Program & Annual Work Plan.
Responsible for Labor & Equipment data input into the Computerized Maintenance Management System.
Participates in continuing professional education.
05% Prepares justification for purchase orders.
Secures necessary permits for all work as required.
Obtains price quotes & recommend vendors and manufacturers.
Plans & prepares annual supply requisitions for shop stock & bench (operating) stock.
Coordinates with the Supply Specialist for tools, equipment, & materials.
Coordinates with other maintenance teams, other agencies & contractors as necessary to accomplish the mission efficiently & expeditiously.
05% Assists personnel with in-house work operations, supporting outside contractors & OSU Facilities Services support operations.
Serves on special advisory boards; actively participating in Dept.
coordination & information review.
Provides technical advice.
What We Require Two years of experience as a journey-level pipe and steamfitter; OR Completion of an approved apprenticeship program.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule Working schedule for this position is: M – F 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
Shift and/or work assignment may be changed based on operational needs.
We are a seven day a week operation so weekends and holiday work may be required.
This position is deemed essential and the incumbent may be contacted by his/her supervisor (or Person In Charge) and required to report to work during inclement weather, emergency and other University work curtailments or closures.
Employee must carry a radio while on the job.
Good attendance is crucial for stability and day-to-day business needs.
Must follow attendance and break schedule, and must be on time when shift begins.
The employee in this position will often be required to lift or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds, and pushing or pulling carts weighing up to 50 pounds.
