Preschool Classroom Teacher (TRD)

The Preschool Classroom Teacher leads early childhood education activities as the children’s classroom teacher.
Ensures all aspects of classroom teaching align with the Early Childhood Education (ECE) Program coursework and philosophy.
Provides information, feedback, and support to practicum students, contributes to parent education program, and collaborates with staff and faculty.

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in the preferred discipline of Child Development, Early Child Development, Human Development plus three years of experience, which includes mentoring, evaluating, lead work or supervising other staff members, and teaching children ages 0 – 5; or an ORO Step 10 with five years’ experience teaching children ages 3 – 5 years old.
Experience should include mentoring other teachers.
Knowledge and Skills: Must have exceptional skills in classroom and behavior management.
Requires a solid understanding of child development, theory, practice, and related programs.

Must have current computer and database knowledge.

Requires the ability to interpret and apply technical rules, regulations, and guidelines related to Oregon Health Sanitation and Department of Child Care Licensing rules.
Requires the ability to organize, plan, and prioritize duties to meet schedules and time-lines.
Requires the ability to communicate formally and informally with a wide range of contacts both within and outside of the college setting.
Requires the ability to demonstrate tact, diplomacy, empathy, and friendliness in dealing with people under stressful conditions.
Must be able to work respectfully with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities.
Licenses and Certificates: Requires a valid Oregon driver’s license, and the ability to pass the Oregon Central Background Registry.
Current First Aid/CPR certification for adult, child, and infant (or acquired within 90 days from date of hire).
Current Oregon Food Handler Card (or acquired within 30 days from date of hire).
Completion of Safety Set as required by Oregon Child Care rules and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications: Bi-lingual English/Spanish Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Pushing, pulling, and carrying supplies, cleaning equipment, and files, and other equipment in the range of 10-40 lbs.
Frequent lifting, bending, squatting, and kneeling while assisting children or conducting classroom responsibilities.
Requires sufficient dexterity to operate a computer.
Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers.
Requires hearing and speaking ability sufficient to communicate.
Work is performed in a child development center and office setting with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards.
Operates mostly in a classroom environment with regular outdoor time.
Evening meetings may be required.
Essential Duties: Support the mission of a college-based lab school that serves student parents, their children, and students in the Early Childhood Education Program.
Plans, implements, and supervises constructivist classroom including developmentally appropriate guidance, environment, and activities.
Evaluate and document children’s developmental goals and develop an appropriate curriculum based on these observations.
Greets and interacts with parents in a warm and respectful manner on a daily basis.
Provides parents with information about their children through daily feedback and regular parent conferences in a manner consistent with Early Childhood Education Program coursework and philosophy.
In collaboration with Center Director and Early Childhood Education (ECE) Faculty, support ECE students in their practicum experiences in the Center.
Provide input to the ECE Faculty for evaluation of practicum students.
Provides ongoing and immediate feedback and information to practicum students during their work with children based on adult learning.
Collaborates with other staff to organize and offer parent education and communication programs.
Supervises practicum students when students are in the classroom.
Meet and communicate with the teaching team to review and coordinate lab activities and environment to meet adult and child needs.
Coordinate and confer with Center Director, teaching staff, and ECE program faculty to ensure that children’s programs meet the children’s developmental needs as well as ECE program instructional needs.
Collaborates with the Center Director, teaching team, Center Coordinator, and ECE faculty to address questions, concerns, needs, or problems that arise from students, parents, and employees related to program or lab operations.
Follows policies for maintaining health and first aid records and promoting good health and nutrition.
Maintain confidentiality of all student and family records.
Collaborates with the Director and Coordinator regarding needed materials and supplies.
Maintain a healthy and safe classroom space, according to industry standards.
Perform other related duties as required.
