My wife quit surfing and I'm down to one dog so it's time to let my faithful camper/surf/work/daily driver Chevy go.
I bought her about 12 years ago downsizing from a Sprinter and I never regretted it.
I had a bunch of modifications made to turn her into a great camping rig most of which were done by Van Specialties who built a bunch of the sprinters in town.
I've also accumulated many accessories that add to the comfort and functionality if you want them.
She's older and got about 182k miles and has lived a full life so there's some issues that haven't slowed her down but I've priced her to address those.
The Pros:
AWD Chevrolet Express 1500 passenger van.
When I switched from a sprinter I was amazed at how much more it feels like driving a car.
She's really sure footed and doesn't feel like she wants to roll over when you go into the turns like the tall vans.
I've got a nice set of Les Schwab chains that come with it.
Solar panel, charge controller and really nice leisure battery wired to extra lighting, stereo and 12V outlets throughout.
This was a Van Specialties deal and the extra battery is wired to the alternator so it charges from driving as well.
Charges my devices, ran my 12v cooler, listened to tunes and had lights at night without worrying about draining the car battery.
I have a brand new AGM battery that cost about $400 which I haven't put in yet because the current one seems to have good life left in it.
Vantastic fan to keep it cool in the summer.
Fan vents in/out and runs off the leisure battery.
Always had good temp to sleep in the summer and never worried about the dogs.
I also have window covers for all windows, custom fabric for the back and reflective windshield and front sides.
Stereo and alarm upgrade.
Two sets of keys/fobs.
Kenwood screened stereo that ties to the bluetooth and has a backup camera screen.
It's before Apple Auto but it still runs XM and navigation voice off my phone just fine.
It got broken into on an early surf trip to So Cal so I got an after market alarm with two key fobs and I bolted in a small safe for laptops, phones, wallets etc.
Versatile set up with camping bed platform and flooring or you can take that out and put in an extra row of seats to bring your hood to coast team seat belted in.
I've hauled tons of lumber with it and there are three locking Thule towers and bars on the roof.
There's a tie on awning in with the accessories.
I've got all the service records since I've owned it, always had it worked on at Reborn Auto which is a great shop and fed it good oil every 3-5k.
Everyone works on these vans/V8 engines because they have been around forever and they don't cost a lot or run into parts scarcity issues.
It regularly gets 15mpg on lowest octane gas.
The tires are pretty solid and just rotated.
It's going to need rear brakes in 5-10k
The Less Good Stuff
It had an oil pump go out two years ago and while I stopped it before anything bad happened the mechanic thinks it may have scored a cylinder so I get a check engine light on and off.
(302 misfire cylinder two is the code) Since that happened I've driven it to So Cal twice and it's been to Glacier and Burning Man.
Compression test shows a little less psi in that cylinder but it doesn't knock or seem to have any less power going 65-70 over steep mountain passes.
I carry a code reader which will come with it and I turn it off the code whenever it bothers me and it stays off for awhile.
It passed DEQ last summer no problem.
It has had a msg to service the stabilitrak for the last couple years.
The mechanic I last talked to said he thought it was related to the engine code but I've never paid to replace the system because it seems to brake and steer just fine.
It's got some body dents, paint wear and the rear side cargo door has a broken bottom hinge.
It still opens like normal but I don't use that door much because it's not necessary and I don't want the other hinge to break.
Some of the interior trim pieces are loose and if you come to see it I won't have it showroom clean because I use it all the time for surf trips with the dog.
I have priced it to take into account all these issues.
In my opinion someone is going to get a lot of car for the money and while I'm not making any warranties I expect it to go many more years of good service.
Thanks for looking.
Please email through the CL post and once we establish contact we can set up time for a visit.
I live in Portland but I'm in Otter all the time.
It might have more dog hair or sand in then but we'll try to keep it cleaned up.
