This desk was acquired sometime in the 1950’s by my mother.
We believe it was acquired from an uncle of hers who traveled extensively.
It has no identifying marks on it but is believed to be of oriental origin based on family history.
It appears to be made of black lacquered mahogany.
The desk is decoratively hand painted with gold leaf paint.
The paintings are all in oriental style depicting flora, fauna, buildings.
The desk top is pin striped with a design on each corner.
The back, sides and foot legs are also pin striped in gold.
There is one large drawer across the top of the desk and three smaller drawers on each side below the top drawer.
The drawers appear to made of mahogany with what appears to be a solid softwood bottom.
The drawer joints are all dovetailed.
The draw pulls are original, appear to have also been hand painted with gold leaf paint.
The drawer pulls are most likely made of steel as a magnet is attracted to them.
No restoration has been done on this desk.
The desk is 44” wide, 22” deep
and 29.
5” tall to the top surface.
Included is a glass cover that has been with the desk as long as I remember.
The glass is slightly chipped.
$750.
